By Aishat Momoh. O.
The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old woman, identified simply as Lilian, for allegedly stabbing her partner to death during a domestic dispute at the Ijanpa Road area of the state.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed the arrest in a post on his official X handle on Wednesday, revealing that the suspect had been living with the deceased, a 34-year-old man, for four years. The couple reportedly began cohabiting when Lilian was 17 and had two children together, aged three and two.
According to Edafe, Lilian admitted to stabbing her partner in the chest after an argument turned violent. She claimed the deceased attempted to end their relationship, leading to a quarrel. “She said he beat her with a cane and smashed her head on the ground before she rushed to the kitchen to get a knife. When he advanced towards her, she stabbed him despite warning him to stay away,” Edafe stated.
In her confession, Lilian expressed regret over the incident but maintained that she acted in self-defence. “I am not happy that he is dead,” she told the police.
Edafe confirmed that the suspect will be charged with murder and used the case to caution Nigerians on the dangers of uncontrolled anger, urging couples to manage their tempers to avoid tragic outcomes.
The incident comes barely two weeks after another case in the state where a man, identified only as “Doctor,” allegedly stabbed his lover, Ima, to death over allegations of infidelity.
