The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Wednesday resumed the disbursement of arrears to corps members, marking the first payment since June 3, after a two-month suspension.

The payment relates to the new N77,000 monthly allowance recently approved by the Federal Government.

Earlier in April, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, assured that both serving and recently passed-out corps members would benefit from the increment once funds were released.

“Once funds are released to us to offset the arrears, we will pay them. Even our corps members who passed out recently will benefit. We have their bank details,” Nafiu said during the Batch A 2025 Pre-Mobilisation Workshop in Abuja.

He stressed the government’s commitment to youth welfare, adding that Nigerians should not doubt its responsiveness.

Confirming the latest development, a former corps member who spoke to *PUNCH* on condition of anonymity said: “After waiting for two months, I didn’t expect to see another payment alert. But honestly, it’s not just about the money; it’s about feeling like our efforts actually count.”

The arrears cover the period from July 2024 to March 2025 and come after widespread frustration over the delayed implementation of the new allowance, which was part of the government’s broader measures to cushion economic hardship for Nigerian youths.
