The Kano State Hisbah Board has confiscated no fewer than 1,600 bottles of assorted beer in the Panshekara area of Kano metropolis.

Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen, confirmed the development in a telephone interview with on Wednesday.

Aminudeen said the operation was carried out following a tip-off, with support from members of the Panshekara community.

“Yesterday, with the support and cooperation of the Panshekara community, our personnel were able to intercept and confiscate 1,600 bottles of beer in bottles, cans, and plastic containers,” he stated.

He urged residents to continue supporting the board in its fight against the consumption and sale of alcohol, stressing that the law establishing the Hisbah Board prohibits both in Kano State.

Aminudeen added that the board would intensify campaigns and advocacy visits to enlighten the public on the dangers of alcohol consumption and other “immoral acts.”

He further disclosed that due process would be followed to obtain a court order for the destruction of the confiscated drinks, reiterating that Hisbah would not relent in its efforts to eliminate beer consumption in the state.

In August, the Yobe State Hisbah Commission destroyed a large cache of alcoholic drinks and arraigned suspects linked to alcohol-related offences during a major raid.
