GOVERNOR YUSUF TAKES STEPS TO GRANT AUTONOMY TO KANO LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

KANO — Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing grassroots administration by endorsing a bill that will confer complete autonomy to local government councils within the state.
The governor expressed his support while chairing the 31st Executive Council meeting at the Government House Annex in Kwankwasiyya City, where the council sanctioned the forwarding of the bill to the State House of Assembly for legislative review.
In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, Governor Yusuf articulated that the proposed legislation aims to empower all 44 local government councils in Kano with both financial and administrative sovereignty.
He stated, “This reform will allow councils to manage their resources independently, implement projects without unnecessary postponements, and make decisions that align with the needs of their communities. ”

He emphasized that local government autonomy is crucial for effective governance, accountability, and the acceleration of development at the grassroots level, characterizing the initiative as a vital step toward deepening democracy within the state.
The governor, however, expressed optimism that the members of the State House of Assembly would endorse the bill, highlighting that it resonates with the overarching interests of the people of Kano.
