The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Joseph Okon Eren, in connection with the death of his neighbour, a youth leader identified as Ekopimo Effiong Moses, during a violent altercation in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, Timfon John, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the incident occurred on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at about 6:00 p.m.

According to the statement, the confrontation between the two men began as a heated argument but quickly escalated into a physical fight in which both resorted to using machetes.

Moses, 34, sustained severe injuries in the clash and was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical treatment, where he was later confirmed dead by the attending doctor.

The arrest of the suspect followed a report from the village head, who alerted the police about the fight.

“A machete, believed to be the weapon used in the incident, has been recovered. The suspect is in police custody while investigations continue. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue,” John stated.

She added that the command has launched a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and would provide further updates as inquiries progress.
