The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) FCT Command has arrested 254 traffic offenders and secured 245 convictions during a Mobile Court exercise under Operation Restore Sanity IV, aimed at curbing violations along the Abuja–Nyanya corridor.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the operation was conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigerian Army Brigade of Guards.

The offenders were arraigned for committing 563 offences, ranging from seatbelt violations (129 cases), driver’s licence violations (122), and overloading (111), to route violations (63). Other infractions included dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, traffic light violations, number plate infractions, use of phones while driving, and impersonation.

Seven notorious offenders identified as Shaab Murtala, Abel Sunday, Sunday Salasi, Benjamin Augustine, Ekem Charles, Hussaini Kabir, and Samsudeen Abdullahi were found guilty of multiple offences. Their punishments ranged from three hours to five days of community service.

“In a striking case, Hussaini Kabir, who not only committed traffic offences but also impersonated the military, was handed a five-day community service sentence to be served at Mambilla Barracks,” the statement noted.

The court sittings were presided over by His Worship Maryam Muazu Alhaji and His Worship Huzaifa Maccido, with FCT Sector Legal Officer CRC Cindy Talabi serving as prosecuting counsel.

Ogungbemide reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to ensuring road discipline, warning motorists to desist from reckless behaviour. He added that similar operations will be replicated nationwide to strengthen enforcement and deter habitual violators.
