GUNMEN ABDUCT TWO COUNCILLORS, IMAM IN ZAMFARA COMMUNITY

The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of two councillors and an Imam by suspected gunmen in Tsauni community, Gusau, on Wednesday night.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, told journalists that the victims councillors representing Gidan Gona and Tsibiri wards in Maradun Local Government Area, along with the community Imam were seized around 7:00 p.m. in front of their homes shortly after prayers.
Tsauni community, located behind the Federal Road Safety Corps’ Zamfara headquarters in Gusau, also hosts internally displaced persons displaced by banditry.
Abubakar said police operatives had been deployed to the area and assured that efforts were underway to secure the victims’ release. He appealed to residents to provide timely information to aid security operations.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Maradun Local Government, Sanusi Gamagiwa, said six people were initially abducted but three were later freed, leaving the two councillors and the Imam in captivity. He added that no contact or demand had been made by the abductors at the time of reporting.
