The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, officially inaugurated the 2025 Local Government Election Petition Appeals Tribunal on Tuesday, 7th October.
The tribunal, chaired by Hon. Justice Yetunde Akinsaya, includes Hon. Justice Kafeel Dawodu, Hon. Justice Omotola Oguntade, Hon. Justice Yakubu Oshoala, and Hon. Justice Omolade Awope as members.
In his address at the inauguration ceremony, held at the Ikeja High Court Conference Room, Justice Alogba called on the tribunal members to carry out their duties with the highest standards of integrity, fairness, and adherence to the law. He explained that the formation of the Election Petition Appeals Tribunal was a direct outcome of the Local Government Election Tribunal Panels inaugurated earlier in July.
Justice Alogba emphasised the importance of the tribunal members being guided by the principles of law and evidence, stressing that they must dispense justice impartially, without fear or favour. He further stated that the tribunal’s success would depend on the members’ professionalism and unwavering commitment to impartiality.
Also, speaking at the event, Hon. Justice Olutoyin Ipaye, the Admin Judge of Lagos Division, commended the tribunal members for their wealth of experience and expertise. She expressed confidence in their ability to carry out their responsibilities and wished them success in their assignment.
The tribunal is set to begin its proceedings immediately, with sittings scheduled to take place at the Rosaline Omotosho Court in Ikeja, Lagos.
