LAGOS GOVT SET TO HOST 10TH EDITION OF ‘LAGOS WOMEN RUN’

The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), in collaboration with the Coordinator, Lagos Women Run, Tayo Popoola, has announced that the 10th edition of the mini marathon with the theme: “One Run, A Thousand Opportunities”, will come up on November 8, 2025.
Speaking further on the forthcoming event, the Coordinator, Tayo Popoola, said the start point is at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos and end at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena, Onikan, stressing that the All Women 10km race aims to connect women through their communities, while creating empowerment opportunities.
She said this year’s edition of the Lagos Women Run marks a significant milestone, celebrating the programme’s journey, the vibrant city of Lagos, and the incredible women who have been part of it since its inception. It will focus more on empowering women, acknowledging their dedication, and ensuring the programme’s sustainability by providing participants with opportunities they deserve.
Popoola added that the race has achieved remarkable success in making women happy and uncovering talents, serving as a platform for participants to train for bigger road races which fosters a strong sense of community, allowing women of all ages to connect, network, and celebrate themselves.
In her words, “The event’s non-discriminatory nature makes it a level playing ground, open to everyone regardless of social status by promoting general well-being among women. The Lagos Women Run encourages participants to step out of their homes, accomplish personal physical goals, and break free from isolation. It helps women discover themselves, overcome depression, and become better versions of themselves.
“Through the Lagos Women Run, women from diverse backgrounds have been empowered to take control of their lives, build confidence, and develop new skills. The event has also catalysed personal growth and transformation, helping participants to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Sports Commission, has been a key partner in the success of the Lagos Women Run, providing support and resources to ensure the event’s continued impact.
“We are proud to be part of this journey, empowering women to take control of their lives and become agents of change in their communities. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Lagos State government and other stakeholders to make a lasting impact on the lives of women in Lagos”, she added.
The Lagos Women Run Empowerment Programme will take place from November 3rd to 6th. The four-day event is designed to empower women with the different skills, knowledge, and support they need to succeed. The programme will feature various activities and sessions.
