The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its air interdiction campaign against terrorist groups in the North-East and North-West, carrying out coordinated, intelligence-led operations that crippled insurgent networks and denied them safe havens.
The operations, conducted between January 1 and 2, 2026, were executed under the joint task forces of Operations Hadin Kai and Fasan Yamma Sector 2, targeting identified terrorist hideouts, movement routes and assembly points across key threat corridors.
In the North-East, NAF air assets delivered successive precision strikes on terrorist enclaves at Abirma and Chiralia within the Timbuktu Triangle. The strikes followed sustained intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions that confirmed the presence of facilities linked to the production of improvised explosive devices and attack planning.
According to the Air Force, the targeted structures were completely destroyed, with multiple secondary explosions observed, indicating the elimination of explosive stockpiles and vital logistics. Further follow-on strikes were carried out at Guva in the Mandara Mountains, where terrorist storage facilities and coordination nodes were dismantled, significantly weakening the group’s capacity to regroup or launch attacks.
Simultaneously, the air campaign was extended to the North-West, where NAF conducted a decisive interdiction mission around Karaduwa Giginya Na in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State. Terrorist elements were tracked moving in large motorcycle convoys and were engaged at a forested convergence point.
Post-strike assessments and feedback from local sources confirmed the neutralisation of several terrorists, the destruction of multiple motorcycles and the elimination of assorted weapons.
The Nigerian Air Force said the sustained multi-theatre operations demonstrated its rapid strike capability, overwhelming airpower presence and resolve to systematically dismantle terrorist networks across the country.
NAF reassured Nigerians that the air interdiction campaign would continue with precision and professionalism in support of joint forces on the ground, stressing its commitment to protecting civilians, supporting national security objectives and restoring lasting peace and stability across all theatres of operation.
