One time Super Eagles Invitee Marouf Yussuf of Egyptian giants Zamalek has started the plans of switching his nationality from Nigeria to Egypt, according to reports.
The Zamalek ace submitted his documents for a switch of nationality early this week, and he is hoping to be issued an Egyptian passport before the start of the World Cup in Russia, as he still has hopes of
representing Egypt if his application is approved on time.
He has been in Egypt since age 17, that means he has already fulfilled the requirements by FIFA for a switch of allegiance by residence, as he has been in the country for more than the five years stipulated by FIFA.
25-year-old Yussuf who is comfortable as a left full back or central midfielder was called up to the Nigerian team before their AFCON 2019 Qualifiers tie against South Africa, but watched the entire proceedings of the 0-2 loss from the bench as an unused substitute.
That singular act by coach of the Nigerian team Gernot Rohr keeps him eligible for Egypt, and if his application for an Egyptian passport pulls through on time, he could represent them at the World Cup 2018 in Russia later this year.
