Media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, has weighed in on comparisons between singer Wizkid and the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
Daddy Freeze argued that Wizkid cannot be measured against Fela, emphasizing that the late legend’s impact extended far beyond music.
He highlighted that Fela was not only a musician but also a committed activist and philanthropist.

In a video broadcast, Daddy Freeze stated that Wizkid would need to engage in activism and fight for civil rights before earning the right to be compared to Fela.
“Until Wizkid is ready to stand up and challenge the government, he shouldn’t be compared to Fela. Did you know Fela was released from prison just to prevent him from dying there?” Daddy Freeze said.
“They let him go home to die because they knew his death in prison would trigger public outrage. That was in 1995, and I was a freshman in university at the time.
“Fela was not a troublemaker; he was a freedom fighter. When we talk about his music, we cannot ignore everything he stood for. His activism and music were inseparable; one cannot be discussed without the other.”
