PREMIER LEAGUE GAMEWEEK 25 SET TO SHAKE UP TITLE RACE AND EUROPEAN PLACES
By Aishat Momoh. O.

Gameweek 25 of the Premier League kicks off this weekend with four high-profile fixtures that could have major implications for the title race and European qualification.
Arsenal vs Sunderland
League leaders Arsenal will host Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, looking to extend their six-point lead at the top. The Gunners, aiming for their first title since 2003–04, continue to build momentum following recent cup success, including a win over Chelsea that secured their place in the EFL Cup final.
Manager Mikel Arteta stressed that the squad remains focused, but key midfielder Mikel Merino will be sidelined for several months due to a foot fracture, while Bukayo Saka is not fully fit. Captain Martin Ødegaard and full-back Jurrien Timber are doubts. Sunderland, unbeaten at home this season, will present a tactical challenge despite sitting eighth in the league. Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 GMT (4pm WAT).
Manchester United vs Tottenham
Manchester United welcome Tottenham to Old Trafford on Saturday in a fixture with potential European implications for both sides. Interim manager Michael Carrick aims to extend a three-match winning streak to four, while key midfielder Bruno Fernandes continues to lead the team’s attacking contributions with 12 assists and five goals this season.
Tottenham arrive after a draw with Manchester City but remain inconsistent. Both teams will be seeking momentum in the mid-season run, with kick-off set for Saturday afternoon.
Chelsea vs Wolves
Chelsea travel to face bottom-placed Wolves on Sunday, seeking to continue a recent strong run despite injuries and fixture congestion. Head coach Liam Rosenior has overseen a five-match winning streak before Arsenal ended their League Cup campaign.
Wolves, with just one league win all season and a porous defence, are expected to test Chelsea’s resilience in a crucial mid-table clash.
Liverpool vs Manchester City
Sunday’s marquee fixture sees Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield in a game that could shape the title race. City sit second, six points behind Arsenal, while Liverpool aim to regain momentum after mixed results.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot highlighted the importance of the fixture, with Hugo Ekitiké and Mohamed Salah expected to spearhead the attack. Pep Guardiola emphasised mental strength, with squad availability, including key defenders and Erling Haaland, shaping selection. Historically, City have struggled at Anfield, giving Liverpool a notable home advantage.
This weekend promises high-stakes action across the Premier League, with the top of the table, European spots, and relegation battles all in focus.
