Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba or Tuface, has ignited fresh discussion in the Afrobeats community by naming Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, as the top artist ahead of Davido and Wizkid.
In an interview on the Mic On Podcast, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye and shared on X on Sunday, 2Baba expressed his thoughts on the current generation of Nigerian music superstars.
He noted that while all three artists have produced hit tracks he enjoys, Burna Boy is currently operating on a “different level” musically.
“I have my favourite songs from each of them,” he said.
“But my own, if I must be put on the spot to say something, I think Burna is on the top of the game right now,” 2Baba said.
The African Queen crooner dismissed direct comparisons between artists as unfair, likening them to painters creating unique works.
“Different artists have different styles. There’s no single formula for success. People have varying tastes and preferences, and I’m speaking in general terms here—I don’t know their personal finances.
“I don’t have details about their individual achievements or wealth, so I can’t comment on that.
“But based on common sense and my understanding of the music industry, I believe Burna Boy is currently at the top of the hierarchy—not just in Nigeria, but across Africa and globally. That said, all of them are doing exceptionally well,” he said.
Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid are often regarded as the top three in Nigerian Afrobeats, and comparisons over who leads the industry have been ongoing for years.
