OVER N1.4BN PAID TO 564 PENSIONERS BY JIGAWA PENSION BOARD

The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has disbursed more than N1.4 billion in pensions and related benefits to 564 beneficiaries across the state.

Dr. Binyaminu Shitu Aminu, the Executive Secretary of the Board, announced this during a briefing with journalists on Monday.

He explained that the total sum of N1,429,201,208.92 includes retirement benefits, death benefits, and outstanding death pension balances. Of this, N1,191,804,237.17 was paid to 485 retired civil servants as their retirement entitlements, while N226,547,197.84 went to the families of 71 deceased workers. Additionally, N10,849,773.91 was disbursed to the families of eight pensioners as outstanding death pension balances.

Dr. Aminu reassured that the board remains committed to the timely payment of pensions, noting that monthly pensions are disbursed regularly on the first day of each month.

Earlier at the Pension House, the Jigawa State Accountant General, Alhaji Abdullahi S.G. Shehu, described the state’s pension system as one of the best in Nigeria. He highlighted Governor Umar Namadi’s dedication to the welfare of serving and retired civil servants and noted that Jigawa’s pension framework has become a benchmark for other states.

Shehu added that since taking office in May 2023, Governor Namadi has injected over N11 billion into the pension scheme to strengthen and sustain its effectiveness.
