GUNFIRE ERUPTS IN KWARA AS BANDITS CLASH WITH SECURITY FORCES; FOUR KIDNAPPED IN PATIGI

Tension gripped parts of Share community, the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area, on Sunday evening following a gunfire exchange between suspected bandits and security operatives.
Eyewitnesses reported that armed men engaged Nigerian Army personnel, forest guards, and other local security outfits near the Ifelodun Local Government Secretariat around 8:30 p.m. The coordinated response successfully repelled the attackers, and authorities confirmed there were no casualties or abductions from the incident.
Hours earlier, suspected bandits struck Kakafu community in Patigi Local Government Area, abducting four residents — a man, a woman, and her two daughters — in a raid around 1:30 a.m. The assailants fired shots into the air, causing panic, and whisked the victims to an unknown location without resistance from local security.
Kwara has faced repeated attacks in recent months, including a February 3 overnight assault in Kaiama that left 170 people dead. Analysts warn terrorists may be moving south along the Niger-Kwara axis toward the Kainji forest, raising fears for vulnerable communities.
President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the administration is collaborating with the United States to enhance security, including deploying a new military unit to protect remote communities from further attacks.
