KANO: NNPP CLAIMS MEMBERS FACING INTIMIDATION

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party has accused the state government of politically persecuting and intimidating its members.
The allegation was made in a statement on Saturday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Karaye, at the party headquarters in Kano.
Karaye described the actions as undemocratic and called on the government to halt what he termed harassment of party members.
“This political persecution against our members is undemocratic, unjustifiable, and a clear abuse of power. We call on the Kano State Government to immediately desist from intimidating individuals who have every constitutional right to belong to any political party of their choice,” he said.
He alleged that the government, which initially came to power on the NNPP platform before breaking away from the party, had begun targeting some of its members.
Karaye claimed the governor withdrew Hajj seats previously allocated to certain NNPP members, including former commissioners, advisers, and party leaders across the state.
“Our members, as citizens of Kano State, are entitled to the same rights and privileges as every other citizen. Retracting Hajj seats simply because of political differences is unacceptable and discriminatory,” he added.
He also alleged that former government officials were being pressured to return vehicles allocated to them during their tenure, which formed part of their consolidated benefits.
The party emphasized that political activities should be conducted with decorum and mutual respect, reminding that political offices are not permanent.
Karaye further called on the government to uphold the right to freedom of association as guaranteed under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
