Suspected bandits have reportedly abducted four members of the same family in Babanla community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The victims were said to have gone to their farm around 5 a.m. on Wednesday when the incident occurred.

The Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Femi Yusuf, confirmed the development in a telephone conversation, expressing concern over the early morning movement to farmlands amid prevailing security challenges.

Sources within the community disclosed that the armed men stormed the farmland on the outskirts of Babanla, firing gunshots into the air before seizing the family members.

According to a resident who spoke on condition of anonymity, the assailants initially captured five persons but later released an elderly man, taking four others to an unknown destination.

“It is true that they abducted four family members. They were kidnapped on their farmland this morning,” the resident said. “They came suddenly and surrounded them. The elderly man was later freed, but four others were taken away.”

As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the abducted victims had yet to be officially confirmed. The Kwara State Police Command had also not issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Residents of Babanla and surrounding communities have called on the government and security agencies to intensify patrols and deploy more personnel to vulnerable rural areas to curb recurring attacks and secure the safe return of the victims.

The community has in recent times experienced repeated security challenges, with locals lamenting what they describe as inadequate security presence in farm settlements.
