Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has ordered the immediate formation of a committee to investigate alleged corruption at Taraba State University, with particular attention to the institution’s accounting department, as the university continues to grapple with an indefinite strike.

The directive was issued over the weekend when the governor received a five-year peace and development plan from the Bureau for Conflict Management Board at TY Danjuma House in Jalingo.

Speaking to stakeholders at the event, Kefas linked the ongoing crisis at the university to alleged financial misconduct within the institution. He suggested that certain individuals may be stoking unrest to protect vested interests connected to questionable financial dealings.

The governor emphasized that his administration would not tolerate any form of corruption that undermines the integrity and stability of state-owned institutions, stressing that transparency and accountability remain central to his reform agenda.

As an immediate measure, Kefas directed the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Barr. Gebon Timothy Kataps, to retrieve documents from previous investigative panels that examined the university’s operations, particularly reports related to the accounting department.

Sources within the state government indicated that the review of past findings will guide the newly constituted committee and ensure continuity in the investigative process.

Observers note that the probe could prove pivotal in resolving the crisis, depending on the scope, transparency, and speed of the investigation.
