Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in Plateau State, has insisted that the Fulani people have never engaged in land grabbing in the state, countering allegations that they have been attacking rural communities and seizing lands.

Babayo made the statement during an interactive session with selected journalists in Jos on Saturday, noting that the Fulani have been unfairly blamed for every incident of violence in the state, including alleged land takeovers.

He claimed that some natives, particularly the Beroms, have been responsible for attacking herders, killing them, and rustling their cattle, only to shift the blame onto the Fulani.

When asked whether Fulani herders have been grabbing land in various communities, Babayo said:

“It is totally not true. The claims that Fulani or Miyetti Allah have grabbed land are false. There is no land grabbing.”

He stressed that anyone claiming their land has been taken by Fulani should report the matter to the appropriate security agencies rather than making unverified accusations.

“The security agencies are in the best position to investigate and verify any land disputes. Let them determine the rightful owner. I reiterate that no Fulani individual or group has ever taken land in Plateau State. Since the time of our forefathers, the Fulani have not seized land from anyone,” Babayo said.

He added: “That claim is unacceptable and untrue. If someone’s land or property has been taken, there are legal procedures to reclaim it. No one is above the law. We have the police, the military, the DSS, and the courts.”

Babayo also noted that Fulanis living in rural areas were born and raised in those communities, stressing that they did not suddenly arrive to take land.

“If anyone believes their land was taken, they should report it to the authorities. The narratives from some natives are pure propaganda and do not foster peace. Such statements are fueling the ongoing crisis in the state,” he added.
