Suspected political thugs have reportedly attacked local government congresses organised by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Oyo State.

It was gathered that the party currently has two factions in the state—one aligned with Wike and the other loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde.

According to the media, the Wike-aligned faction had scheduled its local government congresses to hold on Saturday. However, the exercise was disrupted after hoodlums allegedly invaded the venues and attacked participants while the congresses were in progress.

Reports indicate that about 10 people were assaulted during the attacks, while several vehicles were vandalised.

The chairman of the Wike-aligned faction in the state, Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with DAILY POST on Saturday afternoon.

Akinoso said the attacks occurred in several local government areas, including Ibadan North, Ogbomoso South, Ibarapa Central (Igboora), and Akinyele.

“Our local government congresses were attacked across Oyo State—Ibadan North, Ogbomoso South, Igboora in Ibarapa Central, and Akinyele,” he said.

He added that three vehicles were damaged at Gbolarumi House along Are Avenue in Bodija, Ibadan North, noting that about 10 people were affected in the incidents across the state.
