The Nigeria Police Force in Yobe State has arrested a suspected burglar and motorcycle thief allegedly linked to an interstate theft syndicate operating across parts of northern Nigeria.

The suspect, identified as Lukman Inusa, 27, was apprehended by operatives attached to the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters following intelligence reports on his alleged involvement in motorcycle theft and burglary.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the suspect, a resident of Potiskum Local Government Area, was arrested on March 3, 2026, at about 11 a.m. during a coordinated police operation.

According to Abdulkarim, the suspect allegedly specialised in stealing motorcycles across Yobe State, Gombe State, and Bauchi State.

During preliminary investigations, the police said the suspect confessed to the crimes and assisted investigators in recovering five motorcycles, believed to be part of about 10 motorcycles he allegedly stole since he began his criminal activities.

“The suspect led investigators to the recovery of five motorcycles out of about 10 motorcycles he allegedly stole,” the police spokesperson said.

Abdulkarim added that the recovered motorcycles are currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to identify and contact their rightful owners.

He further stated that the command has intensified efforts to recover the remaining stolen motorcycles and apprehend other members of the syndicate.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Emmanuel Ado, commended members of the public for providing useful information that led to the arrest.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police formation.
