TAMBUWAL EXITS PDP, ALIGNS WITH ADC AMID PARTY TURMOIL

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal said his decision was prompted by the party’s prolonged internal crisis, leadership disputes, and deepening divisions.
The former governor announced the move in a statement posted on X early Thursday, revealing that he had already submitted a written resignation to his ward chairman before formally aligning with the ADC alongside his political allies and supporters.
“After careful reflection and consultations, I have formally resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party and communicated this decision in writing to my ward chairman,” he said.
While acknowledging the PDP’s role in shaping his political journey—including serving as Speaker of the House of Representatives and completing two terms as Sokoto State governor—Tambuwal said the party’s internal challenges made it difficult for him to remain.
“The persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and widening divisions within the PDP have made it increasingly difficult to continue as a member. These issues have weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party,” he stated.
Explaining his choice of the ADC, Tambuwal said he believes the party offers a stronger platform for democratic advancement in Nigeria.
“I believe Nigeria needs a more robust political platform founded on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a firm commitment to national development,” he added, while reaffirming his dedication to democracy, justice, and national unity.
Tambuwal’s move adds to a series of high-profile defections to the ADC, including that of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, strengthening the party’s position as a potential opposition force ahead of the next electoral cycle.
