The Lagos State Government has intensified its commitment to educational innovation by distributing smart digital learning devices and core textbooks to public secondary school students across the state, as part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Hope for Digital Education initiative.

Announced on Friday by Elias Olawale, Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the rollout forms a key part of the third pillar of the Governor’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, which prioritizes Education and Technology as drivers of a 21st-century economy. The programme also aligns with the National Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, focusing on human capital development and educational excellence.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said the initiative aims to “enable access, opportunity, and a future where every child can learn, grow, and succeed,” adding that the programme combines technological innovation with foundational literacy to ensure students thrive in the 21st century.

The distributed Hope Digital Learning Tablets come equipped with Liv.ing data-enabled SIMs and the Roducate platform, providing curriculum-aligned lessons, instructional videos, mock examinations, and life skills resources. Simplified core textbooks complement the devices, ensuring continuous access to high-quality education and reinforcing classroom learning.

The initiative has already demonstrated positive outcomes, with public secondary school students achieving an 80% WAEC pass rate in 2021, and even stronger results expected as the programme scales up. Over 600,000 students are set to benefit, promoting inclusive learning while incentivizing teachers, students, and parents through performance-based programmes.

Lagos State continues to position itself as a national leader in educational innovation, using a combination of digital tools and accessible learning resources to set benchmarks for academic excellence across Nigeria.
