NDLEA CONFISCATES N1.8BN WORTH OF ILLEGAL DRUGS IN EDO, ARRESTS 104 SUSPECTS IN THREE MONTHS

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported seizing illicit drugs worth N1.8 billion over a three-month period in the state.

The media  reports that the State Commander, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, during a press briefing in Benin City, where he highlighted the Command’s achievements for the first quarter of 2026.

According to Ofoyeju, a total of 18.380 kilograms of illegal drugs were confiscated during the period, and at least 104 suspected drug traffickers were arrested.

He said cannabis weighing 18,293 kilograms, is the highest amount of narcotics seized within the period.

He listed other illicit drugs and their kilograms to include Psychotropic 6.01kg, methamphetamine 0.188 kg, Cocaine 0.023kg, heroin 0.0151kg and codeine cough syrup 81.4 litres.

The NDLEA Commander also gave a breakdown of the arrested suspects during the period to including 71 males and 33 females.

He also disclosed that the Command secured the convictions of 36 suspects at the Federal High Court, Benin City.

He said the convicts comprised 32 males and four females.

Ofoyeju added that 10 cannabis farms measuring 5,02260 hectares were also destroyed.

While noting that the achievements were recorded during various intelligence-led raid operations, he added that it was geared towards eradicating drug-related crimes and promoting a drug-free society.

“The Command also stepped up its anti-drug abuse campaign, organizing 26 programs to raise awareness about the dangers of drug trafficking and substance abuse. Twenty-eight individuals struggling with drug dependence were successfully rehabilitated, while 66 others received counselling and were reunited with their families,” he said.
