Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday cautioned President Bola Tinubu against steering Nigeria toward a one-party system.

Speaking for the party during the OccupyINEC protest in Abuja, Peter Obi accused the Tinubu administration of undermining democratic governance in the country.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate stated: “We are simply staging a peaceful protest to make it clear that a one-party system is unacceptable in our nation. Nigeria is a democracy.

“We urge those in power not to erode our democracy. It is vital for our children and future generations. Nigerians must retain the right to freely choose their leaders—this is essential for the country.”

Meanwhile, former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, alleged that the Tinubu administration has worsened hardship for Nigerians.

Amaechi also predicted that Tinubu would be defeated in the 2027 presidential election.

“Consider a president who assumed office and one of his first actions was changing the national anthem… yet brought hardship upon the people. He promised better roads, but none have materialized. The funds are gone. By God’s grace, they will lose the election,” Amaechi said.
