The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) has introduced new measures aimed at attracting increased investment into the state’s sports sector, as part of efforts to unlock its economic potential.
The initiative signals a strategic shift from sporadic sporting activities to a more structured, investment-driven ecosystem, offering clear entry points for entrepreneurs, private investors, and community stakeholders.
Central to the plan is a coordinated framework designed to map sports assets, standardise engagement processes, and enhance visibility for investment opportunities. These include joint venture facility development, streamlined operations for franchise-based local leagues, and institutional support for startups in sports technology, fitness and well-being, media, and analytics.
The Commission also revealed plans to deploy data-driven tools to track participation trends, identify infrastructure gaps, and assess commercial potential across various sporting disciplines in the state.
Speaking on the initiative, the Director-General of the LSSC, Lekan Fatodu, described the framework as a critical step toward repositioning sports within Lagos’ economic structure.
“We are deliberately transitioning the Lagos sports narrative from mere recreation to serious economic value creation. Talent is abundant in this State, but talent without an underpinning business ecosystem is unsustainable. These new measures are engineered to de-risk the sector for institutional investors while creating highly fertile ground for sports technology innovators, apparel manufacturers, and franchise owners to scale their operations within Lagos,” he said.
Fatodu added that the institutional shift aligns with the broader economic agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, which positions sports as a key driver of youth engagement and enterprise development.
He noted that the initiative is expected to open up significant opportunities for investors, reinforcing Lagos’ status as a hub for sports development and innovation.
