Barcelona sets themselve up for a place in the semi-final
Barca were comfortable winners this evening.
However, it didn’t all go the way of Ernesto Valverde’s side and they had to struggle to find an opening, benefitting from own goals from Daniele De Rossi and Kostas Manolas.
Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez also capitalised on easy chances, either side of Edin Dzeko’s slotted finish for the visitors.
Barcelona were far from their best today but they got their win in the end and now have one foot firmly placed in the semi-finals of the Champions League yet again.
There’s plenty to work on ahead of the second-leg next week but a 4-1 advantage puts them in complete control.
Roma impressed overall but the stuffing was knocked out of them by the two own goals that gave Barcelona their edge.
Lacklustre defending was their downfall in the end, particularly with Luis Suarez’s late effort, and it’s a massive learning curve for Eusebio Di Francesco’s side.
