TOTTENHAM MOVE TO HIRE PERFORMANCE PSYCHOLOGIST AMID RELEGATION FEARS

Tottenham Hotspur are planning to appoint a lead performance psychologist for their men’s first team as the club battles a deepening crisis in form and confidence.
According to a report by BBC Sport on Wednesday, Spurs are enduring a 15-game winless run in the Premier League and currently sit in the relegation zone, two points from safety with just five matches remaining.
Their poor run has stretched into 2026, with the North London side failing to record a league win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since early December.
New head coach Roberto De Zerbi, appointed in late March as the club’s third manager this season, has managed only one point from his first two matches in charge.
The Italian has acknowledged the scale of the challenge, stating that the squad requires a “change in mentality” to reverse its fortunes.
In response, Tottenham have advertised for an “outstanding performance psychologist” to support the men’s first team. The role is expected to provide evidence-based psychological support to players, collaborate with coaching and performance staff, and help build a stronger mental performance culture within the squad.
The club is also recruiting a sports psychologist for its women’s team, indicating a broader investment in mental performance and player wellbeing.
Recent comments from within the squad underline the seriousness of the situation. Defender Micky van de Ven described the period as “mentally tough,” admitting that players have been “suffering” during the prolonged slump.
With relegation looming and results yet to improve, Spurs are now combining managerial changes with specialised psychological support in a bid to rescue their season.
