A middle-aged woman identified as Oluwasola Adebayo has died after reportedly collapsing while accompanying her child to a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ilara-Mokin, Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday and caused panic in the community, as eyewitnesses said she began to feel weak shortly after arriving near the examination venue before slumping.

She was reportedly confirmed dead at the scene despite efforts to revive her.

At the time of the incident, her child was said to be inside the examination hall writing the UTME and was reportedly unaware of the tragedy outside.

Residents described the scene as distressing, with passersby gathering in shock as news of her sudden death spread through the area.

The cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed.

The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident, saying “authorities were notified of the sudden death in the community.”

He added that “the family of the deceased had been contacted and, following verification, her remains were released to a relative who identified himself as Apapa Olamilekan, an officer of the Nigeria Legion in Akure.”

The incident has left the community in mourning, coming amid the ongoing nationwide UTME exercise.

Reports indicate that the 2026 UTME commenced nationwide on Thursday, with over 2.2 million candidates participating across 966 accredited Computer-Based Test centres, under strict security arrangements and largely stable operational conditions, aside from isolated disruptions in a few locations.

The examination, scheduled to run from April 16 to April 22, is being conducted in multiple daily sessions between 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
