FORMER PRESIDENT JONATHAN PAYS VISIT TO TINUBU IN ABUJA

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday visited President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting forms part of ongoing consultations between both leaders on political developments in West Africa and Nigeria’s broader continental engagements.
The visit, which took place around 4 p.m., was confirmed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who shared photos of the meeting on his X account.
Images from the اللقاء showed the two leaders in a relaxed conversation, with a “Two-Year Milestone” document visible in the background of the President’s office.
Although no official details were provided on the agenda, the meeting comes months after Jonathan’s last visit in November 2025.
During that earlier visit, Jonathan had just returned from Guinea-Bissau, where he led an election observation mission under the West African Elders Forum. His trip coincided with political unrest in the country, including the arrest of President Umaro Sissoco Embaló by soldiers.
At the time, Jonathan called on regional leaders, including the Economic Community of West African States, to ensure due process, urging that election results be announced and opposition figures released.
In recent years, Jonathan has remained actively involved in regional diplomacy, serving as an election observer and mediator in countries such as Mali, The Gambia, Liberia, and Guinea-Bissau under the West African Elders Forum, often describing himself as a “roving ambassador.”
