Twelve people abducted by Boko Haram from Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State have escaped captivity and reached safety.

According to Daily Trust, a source in Pulka said the group—comprising 10 men and two women—fled during a military operation in the area, which forced the insurgents to abandon some captives while escaping with others.

“One of the victims told us there were military operations in the area which forced the insurgents to abandon some of them and escape with the majority of the captives,” the source said.

A statement from the Borno South Youth Alliance also confirmed the development, noting that the escape occurred on Wednesday.

“They are now safe in a nearby town,” the statement added.

The escapees were identified as Aisha Audu (20), Hajara Audu (18 months), Aisha Idrisa (17), Hafsat Idrisa (four months), Aisha Abubakar Bama (22), Maryam Umar (11 months), Zainabu Umar Mbasuwa (22), Salma Abubakar (2 months), Musa Umar (7), Suleiman Umar (9), Aisha Abubakar (17), and Aisha Musa (10).

the MEDIA  recalls that the 416 victims were reportedly abducted during the March 4, 2026 attack on Ngoshe community.

Boko Haram had earlier released a video issuing a 72-hour ultimatum to both the Federal Government and Borno State authorities, demanding compliance with its conditions or threatening to kill the 416 captives.
