Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested two suspected kidnappers in Iyamho, near Edo State University in Edo North, recovering weapons and other incriminating items.

The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, who said the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence.

According to the statement, officers of the Iyamho Division responded swiftly to reports of suspected kidnappers sighted in the area around 10:35 a.m. on April 27, 2026.

The suspects, identified as Sani Kabir, 23, and Hamza Nuhu, 25, were apprehended at the scene.

Items recovered from them include two Dane guns, one live AK-47 round, two cutlasses, a police woven headgear, a hunter’s headlamp, four cans of gunpowder, assorted charms, and several locally made bullets.

The statement noted that the suspects were believed to be linked to kidnapping activities in the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

Reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling crime, the commissioner assured residents that Edo State would not become a safe haven for kidnappers and other criminal elements.

He also commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.

The development comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to clamp down on kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country.
