The Chief Magistrate Court 2 sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, has ordered the remand of 47 suspects arrested during a security operation targeting criminal hideouts in Mubi, northern Adamawa.
The suspects were remanded in a correctional facility after being arraigned following a joint security raid in Mubi and surrounding communities, which led to the arrest of 73 individuals for various offences.
The 47 defendants currently facing prosecution were brought before the court in two separate batches.
In the first batch, police prosecutor Inspector Ahmed Abubakar told the court that 23 defendants allegedly conspired, armed themselves with dangerous weapons, and engaged in violent criminal activities.
He said the charges against them include criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, kidnapping, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, terrorism, theft, receiving stolen property, and mischief.
The prosecutor further alleged that the suspects were involved in the distribution and consumption of banned substances such as tramadol, diazepam, and suspected cannabis, which he said contributed to insecurity and disturbances in Mubi North and Mubi South LGAs.
He added that security operatives recovered items including military face caps, fake police identity cards, machetes, knives, daggers, and jackknives.
Ahmed urged the court to deny the defendants bail, stating that investigations were still ongoing and that the case required legal advice from the state Ministry of Justice.
In a separate proceeding, another 24 defendants were also arraigned by ASP Ezra Bulus and similarly remanded by the court.
