The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of vandalising railway materials belonging to the Federal Government’s Kaduna–Kano rail project.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, the suspect, identified as Sani Ismail from Kuya village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was apprehended in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano State following intelligence-led operations.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations showed that the suspect allegedly removed and vandalised 11 rail line clips installed on the ongoing standard gauge railway project.

The NSCDC added that a hammer believed to have been used in the act was recovered from the suspect.

In a separate development, the command also arrested two individuals accused of impersonating NSCDC personnel. The suspects, identified as Yusuf Usman and Muhd Auwal, both 22 years old and residents of Kawo Jirga in Nassarawa LGA, Kano State, were said to be posing as civil defence volunteers.

The duo allegedly operated from a location displaying NSCDC insignia and reportedly harassed a social media comedian.
