American rapper Azealia Banks has stirred controversy after claiming that Nigerians are not welcoming toward Black Americans.

The “212” singer alleged that Nigerians are “cold-hearted” and tend to distance themselves from Black Americans.

In a post shared on her X account, Banks stated that she did not want to identify as Nigerian because, according to her, Nigerians push Black Americans away.

She contrasted this with Ghana, which she described as being more accepting of Black Americans, while also expressing pride in her Ghanaian heritage.

Her comments triggered backlash from many Nigerians on social media, with critics accusing her of making sweeping generalisations and stereotyping Nigerians.

Despite the criticism, Banks reportedly continued making provocative remarks about Nigerians online.
