The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is “dead on arrival.”
Wike stated that Makinde’s move to join the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in pursuit of his presidential ambition would not succeed.
Makinde had on Thursday announced his presidential bid in Ibadan, Oyo State, on the platform of APM, following a Memorandum of Understanding between his faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APM.
However, Wike dismissed the development, insisting that Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State had not been part of any PDP–APM alliance, describing the claim as political imagination.
Speaking to journalists during an inspection of road projects in the Gomani-Yangoje area of Kwali Area Council, Abuja, Wike said Makinde’s ambition would not stand, adding that the plan was already doomed.
He maintained that Makinde could not secure the PDP ticket.
Wike also reacted to comments attributed to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara regarding his political status, saying the governor had not raised any issue requiring sympathy.
He questioned claims of crisis, insisting that Fubara had affirmed his continued membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
