The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted Nasir el-Rufai bail of N100 million in his trial over alleged breach of national security.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, while delivering ruling on Monday, imposed strict conditions for his release on bail.
The former Kaduna State governor is required to provide one surety in the same amount, who must reside in Maitama or Asokoro in Abuja and deposit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property with the court registry.
The surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17, with proof of salary payments for at least three months, verified by a letter from the bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.
The court also ordered the surety to submit an affidavit of means, enter a bail bond, and provide a recent passport photograph.
As part of the conditions, Nasir el-rufai is required to deposit all valid international passports with the court.
In addition, the surety must present a verification letter from his or her department and a six-month tax clearance certificate.
Justice Abdulmalik further directed Nasir el-rufai to report to the DSS headquarters every last Friday of the month by 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register until the case is concluded.
The court warned that failure to comply with any of the conditions would lead to automatic revocation of the bail.
It also ordered an accelerated hearing of the charges filed by the Federal Government against Nasir el-rufai.
