SENATE CONFIRMS RECEIPT OF STOLEN MACE.

The Senate has confirmed receipt of the stolen mace which was carted away by hoodlums who accompanied suspended Delta Central Senator, Ovie Omo-Agege to Wednesday’s plenary.
Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu disclosed this on Thursday after a brief closed-door session.
The Clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Omolori had earlier at exactly 11:55am received the mace from the Police, Deputy Inspector General in charge of Operations, Habila Joshak.
National Assembly correspondent Folashade Abdulsalami reports that the mace was however received at the entrance of the central lobby of the National Assembly where the two hallow chambers are located .
 
Ekweremadu who presided over plenary therefore summoned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to appear before the senate next week to brief on the outcome of their investigations.
He further directed the Police and Department of State Services to fish out those who plotted, aided and abetted the hijacking of its mace and ensure to bring them to book.
Ekweremadu however commended the international community, political parties and civil society groups for condemning the act which he described as a derogation and total smear on the nation’s democracy.
In the meantime, the Police had in a statement in the early hours of of the day on the recovered mace, said it was found under the bridge at the City Gate by a motorist.
