Chelsea hail ‘impressive’ Omeruo following Nigeria’s World Cup exit

Premier League outfit Chelsea have been keeping a close eye on Kenneth Omeruo at the 2018 World Cup and were impressed by his performance despite Nigeria’s controversial 2-1 loss to Argentina in their final game of the tournament.
However, the central defender is to be blamed for the first goal goal conceded by the Super Eagles in the 14th minute after he failed to read Messi’s run and the Argentina number ten fired a right-footed shot past Francis Uzoho.
In their review of the game, Chelsea wrote on their official website : ”This one will perhaps hurt the most for a young side who showed so much promise, led by Chelsea legend John Mikel Obi in midfield and bolstered at the back by the impressive Kenneth Omeruo….
”Still, plenty of work was required and Omeruo in the back three and Moses at right wing-back defended with diligence…..”
Omeruo, who made his second start of the World Cup against Argentina, was replaced by Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi in the 90th minute in a tactical substitution, while Nigeria’s only goalscorer Victor Moses went the distance.
Chelsea’s Argentina goalkeeper Wilfredo Caballero was punished for his error against Croatia and was a non-playing substitute in the final Group D game.
