UPDATE: CIVIL SERVANT COMMITS SUICIDE IN EKITI STATE
Joseph Omoniyi
An Ekiti State civil servant identified as Abolarin Olaoye has committed suicide in the State on Wednesday.
The father of five was said to have hung himself on the railing of the State Secretariat in Ado-Ekiti.
According to his first child and sister-in-law who spoke with newsmen, the backlog of salaries being owed by the state government, which has resulted to economic hardship for some workers in the State, may not be far from the reason the security guard took his own life.
Recall that, over a year ago, a Level 12 officer, native of Oye Ekiti, Tope Afolayan, worked in the office of the Accountant General of the State, had also committed suicide.
He was said to have consistently complained of failure to pay his debts because of the non-payment of arrears of salaries owed government workers.
