Umar Ibrahim, the Labour Party’s National Secretary, has stated that Peter Obi remains the party’s presidential flagbearer and that there is no split inside the party.
Ibrahim made the announcement while speaking to journalists in Kaduna on Friday.
According to sources, Festus Okoye, the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Commissioner for Information, named Peter Obi the victor of the LP presidential primary held on May 30 in Asaba, Delta State.
“Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, is the authentic presidential candidate of the party, validly elected during a convention organized by the leadership of Mr Julius Abure as National Chairman,” Ibrahim said, adding that there was no schism in the party, The Independent National Electoral Commission is in charge of overseeing and recognizing elections.
“There is no faction in the LP, but there is in the mind of those who are foot soldiers of enemies of Nigeria and Nigerians,” he said, adding that the Nigeria Labour Congress’ leadership and members had recognized and approved Obi’s candidacy.
The LP, according to the National Secretary, is supported by the majority of Nigerians who seek credible political leadership and consider it as the only viable option for providing Nigerians with the president they so desperately need to save the country.
He then advised Nigerians, particularly those in the south-east, to remain focused.
“Instead, you should rally behind Mr. Peter Obi and use the LP to aid him in his effort to free Nigeria from the chains of godfatherism,” he says.
