The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a 33-year-old woman whose body was dumped in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, 26, and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, 20, were reportedly arrested following intelligence-led investigations and digital forensic analysis by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident occurred on March 13, 2026, after the deceased was allegedly lured to a residence under the pretext of offering assistance.
Ikenga said the case began when the victim’s mother reported her missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters. The following day, her lifeless body was discovered in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, where she was later identified by her father.
The matter was subsequently transferred to the SCID in Awka for further investigation, which led to the arrest of the suspects on June 6, 2026.
Preliminary findings revealed that the principal suspect allegedly confessed to planning the attack, claiming he had been in a relationship with the deceased for about three years.
He was quoted as saying that a misunderstanding involving the victim’s husband led to resentment and ultimately the alleged killing.
Police further stated that the deceased was lured to the suspect’s residence on the pretext of seeking help for an illness, where she was allegedly attacked with a machete alongside the second suspect.
Both suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining public safety across the state.
