The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for stronger support and greater inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across Nigeria, while distributing cash and food items to hundreds of beneficiaries in Abuja.
The beneficiaries, drawn from various disability groups within the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring communities, received the support at an event held on Tuesday at the APC National Secretariat.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the APC National Leader of Persons with Disabilities, Tolu Bankole, the initiative was designed to assist vulnerable citizens while encouraging increased participation of PWDs in political and national development.
Speaking on behalf of the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, his Principal Private Secretary, Jibrin Bancir, welcomed the beneficiaries and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to disability inclusion.
Bancir, who represented the chairman, assured that the party was committed to ensuring persons with disabilities benefit from its programmes and policies.
He added that the leadership of the APC National Chairman fully supports ongoing efforts by the PWDs’ leadership within the party to expand access to opportunities.
Bankole, in his remarks, expressed appreciation to the party leadership for its continued support and called for deeper collaboration to improve the welfare of persons with disabilities nationwide.
He noted that the distribution of cash and food items was part of broader efforts to provide relief and empowerment to PWDs.
Beneficiaries from different disability groups, including the visually and hearing-impaired, expressed gratitude for the intervention, describing it as timely given current economic challenges.
The statement further highlighted that the event provided an opportunity to advocate for stronger inclusion of PWDs in governance, economic activities, and public life.
It also urged government institutions, private organisations, and development partners to intensify efforts to remove barriers limiting opportunities for PWDs and to support empowerment programmes aimed at promoting social inclusion.
The party reaffirmed that the welfare of persons with disabilities remains a key priority under the Renewed Hope Agenda, calling for collective action toward building a more inclusive society.
