The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued a four-year-old boy following a swift intelligence-led operation in Bauchi metropolis.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping and related crimes in the state.

According to the statement, detectives attached to the State Intelligence Department launched an investigation after receiving a kidnapping complaint from the victim’s father, a 45-year-old resident of Gida Dudu Housing Estate in Bauchi.

The complainant reported that his four-year-old son, Musa (surname withheld), had been abducted from the front of their residence.

“On June 10, 2026, the Command acted on a formal complaint of kidnapping lodged by a 45-year-old father, a resident of Gida Dudu Housing Estate, Bauchi. The complainant reported that his son, Musa, a four-year-old boy, was abducted from the frontage of their residence,” Habib stated.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the prime suspect, identified as Muhammad Usman, 39, allegedly lured the child away from his home on June 9 before taking him to the residence of a second suspect, Hayatudeen Ahmad, 40, who lives in the same housing estate.

Police said Usman allegedly deceived Ahmad by claiming that the child was his sister’s son and that the boy’s mother was critically ill.

“To conceal his crime, Muhammad Usman deceived Hayatudeen Ahmad, claiming the boy was his sister’s son and that she was critically ill. He further claimed it was too late to travel to Kano that night and pleaded with the second suspect to keep the child overnight, promising to take him to their family in Kano the following day,” the statement said.

Investigators further discovered that Usman allegedly wrote and dropped a ransom note at the victim’s family residence, demanding N5 million and providing a telephone number through which the payment could be arranged.

Following the report, detectives immediately commenced a coordinated operation, tracking the suspects to Ahmad’s residence, where the child was found alive and unharmed.

“Upon receiving the complaint, the detectives swung into action, tracked the suspects, and proceeded to the house of the second suspect where the victim was found alive and in good health. The child has since been reunited with his family,” Habib said.

The police spokesman confirmed that both suspects remain in custody and are assisting investigators.

“Both suspects are currently in police custody and are cooperating with investigators. Discreet investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the incident is ongoing, after which the duo will be charged to court,” he added.

The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the detectives for their professionalism, swift response, and successful rescue operation.

He reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, warning that individuals involved in kidnapping and other criminal activities would face the full weight of the law.

The commissioner also urged parents and guardians to educate children about the dangers of trusting strangers and encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.

The rescue comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies across the country to combat kidnapping and strengthen public safety through intelligence-driven policing and community cooperation.
