The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday as his trial resumed.
Sowore, a human rights activist, was brought to court from the Kuje Correctional Centre, where he is currently being held.
His remand followed a ruling by Justice Mohammed Garba Umar on Monday directing that he remain in custody pending the hearing and determination of his application seeking a stay of execution of the court’s order revoking his bail and issuing a bench warrant against him.
Following the ruling, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) took him into custody before handing him over to correctional authorities.
On arrival at the court, Sowore appeared cheerful and was seen interacting with lawyers ahead of the proceedings.
Several supporters and activists were also present at the court premises awaiting the outcome of the case.
The DSS is prosecuting Sowore over allegations that he made defamatory remarks against President Bola Tinubu by describing him as “a criminal” in posts published on his X and Facebook accounts.
