EDO POLICE RESCUE 11 KIDNAP VICTIMS, LAUNCH MANHUNT FOR FLEEING SUSPECTS

The Edo State Police Command has rescued 11 persons abducted from their farms in Ogbido Community, Iyahmo, following a coordinated rescue operation involving police operatives, local vigilantes and hunters.
According to the Command, the incident occurred on June 25, 2026, at about 8:20 pm after authorities received a distress call reporting that 11 residents had been kidnapped while working on their farms.
Operatives from the Iyahmo Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer and supported by local security volunteers and hunters, immediately launched a search-and-rescue mission into the surrounding forest.
During the operation, the rescue team reportedly engaged the suspected kidnappers in a gun duel. Faced with the operatives’ response, the suspects abandoned the captives and fled into the forest.
The victims, comprising nine men and two women, were rescued unharmed and later taken to hospital for medical examination before being reunited with their families.
The rescued victims were identified as Braimah Destiny, 46; Aruna Idris, 38; Abudu Sharafadeem, 38; Godwin Elizabeth, 28; James Favour, 28; Nonso Ana, 30; Abdulilia Ozigi, 26; Lambo James, 27; Wasia Abdul, 48; Lucky Emmanuel, 24; and Suleman Aliyu, 25.
The Police said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commending the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, praised the courage and resilience of the police operatives, vigilantes and hunters whose swift response led to the successful rescue.
The Command added that security operations had been intensified across the area and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support the fight against crime.
The police described the successful operation as a reflection of the impact of collaboration between communities and security agencies in tackling insecurity.
