The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has shut down three milk production factories in Awada, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, over alleged violations of acceptable production and hygiene standards.
The enforcement exercise was carried out on Tuesday by FCCPC officials, supported by security operatives, who raided the facilities and destroyed freshly produced milk found in containers and cans.
Speaking during the operation, the South-East Zonal Coordinator of the FCCPC, Ndidiamaka Obialor, alleged that products manufactured by the affected factories posed significant health risks to consumers.
According to her, many dairy products circulating in the market are adulterated and produced under unsanitary conditions.

Obialor stated that the FCCPC, as the agency responsible for consumer protection and the enforcement of fair business practices, would not allow such activities to continue unchecked.
She alleged that the factories operated in dirty environments, used discarded plastic bottles sourced from the streets, and packaged products without observing basic hygiene protocols or using personal protective equipment.
The FCCPC official further claimed that untreated water was used in the production process and that the finished products were not subjected to any form of quality testing before being sold to consumers.
She expressed concern over the growing presence of substandard products in the market, warning that such items pose serious dangers to public health.
Obialor added that the commission would sustain its enforcement actions to ensure unsafe products do not reach consumers.
During the raid, one factory owner was arrested, while production equipment and other materials used in the manufacturing process were confiscated as evidence.
The FCCPC said its intervention forms part of ongoing efforts to protect consumers and enforce compliance with safety and quality standards in the food and beverage sector.
