FG HAILS DANGOTE PROJECT AS CATALYST FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH IN OGUN, ONDO

The Federal Government has urged host communities in Ogun and Ondo states to fully support the proposed Dangote Industrial City and Deep Seaport project, describing it as a landmark development capable of driving economic expansion and improving livelihoods in the region.
Speaking through the Director of Assessment at the Federal Ministry of Environment, Mrs. Rofikat Adebukunola Odetoro, the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, made the appeal during a joint Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) site visit to the project area.
During the three-day assessment tour of Ode-Omi Waterside Community in Ogun State and Araromi Community in Ondo State, Odetoro praised Dangote Industries Limited for its commitment to environmental sustainability and stakeholder inclusion.
She expressed satisfaction with the level of consultation already carried out with host communities and noted that the preparatory work reflected efforts to comply with environmental regulations while addressing community interests.
Odetoro also stressed the importance of inclusive engagement, urging traditional rulers and community leaders to ensure that women and children are actively represented in discussions surrounding the project.
According to her, the development offers significant opportunities for employment, youth empowerment and corporate social responsibility programmes that could benefit residents of the host communities.
At a stakeholders’ engagement in Araromi Seaside Kingdom, Managing Director of Infrastructure and Logistics at Dangote Industries Limited, Capt. Jamil Abubakar, assured residents that the company would maintain transparency, fairness and open communication throughout the implementation of the project.

He said the President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, remains committed to promoting Africa’s economic self-reliance through major infrastructure investments.
Abubakar revealed that Araromi had been selected as the site for what is expected to become one of the world’s largest deep seaports, adding that the company was committed to addressing community concerns and ensuring mutual benefits for all stakeholders.
He further disclosed that Dangote had directed the project team to conduct a comprehensive needs assessment of host communities and provide necessary interventions regardless of the project’s stage of development.
Presenting the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment report, Dr. Adeyemi Adun, Group Lead for Environment and Sustainability at Dangote Industries Limited, explained that the study was designed to establish baseline environmental and socio-economic data before project execution.
He said the assessment would examine air quality, water resources, soil conditions and the socio-economic status of residents in line with guidelines set by the Federal Ministry of Environment.
Adun assured community members that the project would deliver positive outcomes similar to those recorded in other communities hosting Dangote investments across the country.
Also speaking, Isaac Ojo, representing the Ondo State Commissioner for Environment and serving as Director of the Environmental Assessment Department, welcomed the commencement of the assessment process and described it as inclusive and beneficial to all stakeholders.
Traditional ruler of Araromi Seaside Kingdom, Oba Adeoloye Olawole, also pledged the community’s support, expressing confidence that the project would accelerate development in the area and create lasting economic opportunities.
The assessment exercise brought together officials of the Federal Ministry of Environment, representatives of the Ogun and Ondo State governments, local government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community representatives and Dangote Industries officials.
Stakeholders discussed strategies for ensuring the successful execution of the project, which is projected to become Africa’s largest deep seaport, while communiqués were signed at the end of engagements held in Ode-Omi and Araromi. Consultants have also commenced field surveys as part of the ESIA process.
