FRENCH APPEALS COURT CONFIRMS ACHRAF HAKIMI WILL FACE TRIAL OVER 2023 RAPE ALLEGATION

A French appeals court on Friday confirmed that Moroccan football star Achraf Hakimi will stand trial over allegations of rape involving a woman in 2023.
The Paris Saint-Germain right-back and Morocco national team captain denies the accusation.
The case stems from an incident in February 2023, when a 24-year-old woman reported to police in the Val-de-Marne region, southeast of Paris, that Hakimi had raped her.
Following Friday’s ruling by the Versailles Court of Appeal, Hakimi reacted on social media platform X, saying he had been “waiting for this trial since day one.”
“At last, I’ll be able to speak,” he wrote.
A trial date has not yet been set, as proceedings are expected to take place at the criminal court in the Hauts-de-Seine department.
Hakimi’s lawyer, Fanny Colin, said the ruling was expected and stressed that it does not imply guilt.
“This confirmation was expected. Nothing here says that he is guilty of anything, he remains steadfast in his defence,” she said.
The plaintiff’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, said the court’s decision brought her client “relief and hope”.
According to police sources, the complainant said she met Hakimi on Instagram in January 2023 and later visited his home in a taxi arranged by the player.
She alleged that he kissed her, touched her without consent, and raped her before she managed to escape and contact a friend who picked her up.
Speaking publicly for the first time in a Mediapart interview, the woman—identified under the pseudonym “Jeanne”—said she is seeking a trial to be heard.
“I want to explain myself. I want people to believe me,” she said.
